About Dr. Levy

Dr. Levy, Merrick Dentistry, Merrick NY

After graduating S.U.N.Y Binghamton (now known as Binghamton University) I spent a year working at Nassau County Medical Center (now known as Nassau University Medical Center) before going on to Washington University Dental School, St. Louis, Missouri.

Following dental school graduation, in 1978, I participated in a one year General Practice Residency at Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. The dental residents were a select group of 4 chosen from an applicant pool of 400 dentists. Here I received advanced training in all the dental specialties including prosthodontics (reconstructive dentistry), periodontics (gums), endodontics (root canals), oral surgery and orthodontics.

In 1984, after associateships at three prestigious Long Island dental offices, I purchased my present office from Dr. Roy Costa, who had been practicing in this location since 1952. He would fondly ask me, “Where were you all the years I needed an associate?” I’d reply, “In elementary school!” Naturally, the facilities and the equipment have been totally renovated, changed and updated to provide you with the professional excellence and leading-edge dentistry for which my office is known.

My professional memberships include:

American Dental Association (http://ada.org/)
New York State Dental Association (http://www.nysdental.org/)

American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (http://www.aacd.com/)

Dentistry Continuing Education:

I am constantly updating my skills and knowledge on a monthly basis via continuing education courses in all fields of dentistry, including cosmetics, implants, prosthodontics (reconstruction), periodontics (gums), endodontics (root canals) and pharmacology. Our study group, Nassau Dental Perspectives, also sponsors courses on a regular basis. I am always studying the current professional journals and dental forums on the Internet.

Hobbies:

Before or after work I can be usually found working out at New York Sports Club. Since I was 18 years old, I’ve learned that daily exercise not only keeps one healthy, but it’s great for boosting energy levels, stress reduction and maintaining a positive spirit. A healthy body and a healthy smile, now that’s a great combination!

Dr. Levy Race Car

From April to November I indulge myself in my love of cars. As an avid Autocross enthusiast, and member of the New York Region Sports Car Club of America, I can be found racing my modified green 1999 Mazda Miata, frequently adorned not only with it’s car number, but magnetic teeth too! Sometimes I even manage to bring home a trophy! Occasionally, I also participate in track events at Pocono Raceway, Watkins Glen or Lime Rock.

Autocrosses are usually held in large parking lots or airfields. The courses are marked out with cones and the events are timed with laser timers. Cars are divided into various classes. Autocrossing is open to all. No experience necessary. Just bring your daily driver (SUVs and pickups excluded), your enthusiasm, a valid driver’s license and about 30 to 40 bucks for the day. At each event, approximately 20% of participants are first timers, so don’t be shy!

Dr. Levy has appeared on TV, on News 12, along with New York State Assemblyman Andrew Raia to discuss autocrossing and motorsports on Long Island and the New York Metropolitan area.
