First Visit

Your initial appointment at Progressive Dentistry will begin with a review of your medical history. If you have artificial heart valves or prosthetic knees, hips or shoulder joints please be sure to inform us and take your antibiotic pre-medication one hour prior to your visit, as prescribed by your physician. If you do not have any of this medication, please inform us and we will make arrangements for you to get them.

Should your first visit be for a dental emergency, we will carefully provide treatment so that you will be comfortable and you leave happy. Dr. Levy and Dr. Gatha are emergency dentists and will always see you promptly to relieve your distress.

If you are scheduled for a checkup, you will receive a most thorough and gentle cleaning and the necessary x-rays from Diane, Eileen or Kristina, our most skillful hygienists. Drs. Levy and Gatha will perform a comprehensive dental examination, including an oral cancer exam, and discuss your concerns. Special care will be taken to check your gums for periodontal disease (gum disease).

A thorough oral cancer screening done visually and with the VELscope is routinely performed at each hygiene and exam visit on all patients 17 years of age and older. Drs. Levy and Gatha feel that oral cancer screening is critically important for your health and the early detection of this deadly disease.

For this reason OUR OFFICE NEVER CHARGES A FEE FOR ORAL CANCER SCREENING.

If you have a loved one, friend or relative who is concerned about a lesion (spot) in their mouth it would be our pleasure to examine it without charge. Just call us for an appointment!

Occasionally, a complex treatment plan or medical history may require further evaluation and a consultation appointment.

If your first visit is scheduled with Drs. Levy and Gatha, you will have the same comprehensive oral examination and oral cancer screening as described above. Sufficient time will be given for you to express your dental concerns and be informed of Drs. Levy and Gatha findings. As an enlightened patient, you will be able to achieve the most optimal dental health and also determine a course of treatment that you are comfortable with.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your appointment:

  • A list of any medications you are currently taking.
  • If your previous dentist has given you x-rays, please bring them with you.
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring your insurance card and the necessary completed forms, if possible. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern. (ie, diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medications that may cause bleeding (ie, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, blood thinners, etc.).

X-Rays

If your previous dentist has taken digital x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office via email ([email protected]). If your previous dentist does not have digital x-rays, please pick them up, if possible, and bring them to your appointment. If additional films are necessary, they will be taken at our facility.
